Strategic Communications:
News Pitching and Op-Ed Writing

In Strategic Communications: News Pitching and Op-Ed Writing you will learn how to take an issue from abstract to concrete, and how to deploy advocacy messaging around that issue. This webinar gives you the opportunity to craft an advocacy message, write a sample story pitch to reporters, and/or outline an op-ed you can further develop -- and, hopefully, get published in your local newspaper!

Before you begin this video, take a moment to consider the following, to prepare for your news pitch or op-ed outline:

  • An issue in mind (e.g., predatory debt collection)

  • A real-life story (scrubbed of personal details) to illustrate the stakes of your issue

  • Some thought given to your answer to the question, "What law or practice of the civil justice system must change to give people like the one in this story a fair chance?"
